St. Kevin’s is a diverse Catholic Community that reaches out and welcomes all ages and cultures, and respects and promotes the dignity of each individual. We are Christ centered and witnesses to His life, and strive to live the values of the gospel in our daily lives: charity, honesty and forgiveness. We encourage service and leadership from within the parish to provide for the community’s present and future needs.
Born into a noble family in Ireland in 498 A.D, St. Kevin of Glendalough founded the Monastery of Glendalough which was widely known as one of the most important ecclesiastical and educational centers in the Christian world. An angel is said to have appeared as Kevin was about to be baptized
and told his parents that the child should be called Kevin which means "the fait-begotten". He is the first person in history to carry the name.
According to tradition, Kevin was seven years old when his parents sent him to school in Dublin where he studied under Saint Petroc and lived with monks until he was 12. Called to the monastic life, he studied for the priesthood and was tutored by his uncle Saint Eoghan. He was ordained a priest and subsequently was consecrated a bishop.
Furthermore according to tradition records, while at the monastery, Kevin desired solitude in which to meditade and do penance, and that he went alone to Glendalough, where he lived many years in recluse. He died June 3rd, 618 A.D which means he lived to be one hundred and twenty years old. He was later canonized in 1903 and is the patron saint of our church.
